Slight edge on the old coleslaw recipe - gives it a new Japanese zing or should that be zen?

  • 2 cup Cabbage two types preferably 1 cup of each finely sliced
  • 2 medium carrots grated/ shredded or finely julienned
  • 50 g Green beans finely sliced
  • 50 g Snow peas finely sliced


  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 50 ml Mirrin
  • 50 ml Soy Sauce Light Soy
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds Toasted. Black preferably but white are still OK.


  • If you have a mandolin slicer the slaw will have a more delicate mouth feel. Make sure all the vegetables are finely sliced. Mix together in a salad bowl.
  • Fry the garlic in the olive oil. Add the mirrin and soy sauce to heat through and infuse the garlic flavour. Let cool slightly and pour over the slaw. Sprinkle with the black sesame seeds and serve.
